A Little About Me... Mrs. McGuckin
My genuine love and enthusiasm for learning is infectious. I believe having a positive and energetic attitude helps keep students motivated to challenge themselves. Kids can tell when teachers truly care and appreciate who they are as individuals. I became a teacher because that part comes so naturally to me. Connecting with and spending my days teaching amazing children is not just a job, it's spiritually fulfilling for me in a way that words simply cannot describe.
I show my students how to problem solve when they aren't sure how, ask them meaningful questions, and am always wanting to learn with my students. As a coach and mentor, I teach my students to be creative through risk-taking and accept that failures are opportunities for tremendous growth. I demonstrate how to be resilient in our collaborative quest for knowledge by not giving up and working hard!
This is my 10th year teaching in Douglas County School District. I attended the University of Northern Colorado and have my master's degree in Elementary Education. I have taught 5th grade and 6th grade STEM. This is my second year at Iron Horse Elementary and I am so excited to be here.
I am the proud mom of three amazing boys. My youngest son is here at Iron Horse in 1st grade and my two oldest boys attend Cimarron Middle School. I am married to the love of my life and best friend, Adam. We met as teenagers and have been on an amazing journey together ever since. We live here in Parker and love spending time with our families that live close by. Our favorite things to do in our free time are kayaking, swimming, cooking, playing games, going for adventures, watching movies, and napping.
